Chicks...by mail...really?

I ordered mine from Murray McMurray due to the excellent customer service reviews I read on here. I lost a total of two chicks, one the day they arrived (couldn't eat or drink, weak chick, adversely affected by the Marek's vaccine, or hurt during shipping) and the rare chick, again from weakness. They were all so active when the box was opened! Running around their brooder as fast as their legs could carry them! (must stop thinking....now I want more chicks!) Very fast shipping as well, got them literally overnight. Good luck, and hope you find what you're looking for!

I've received 4 shipments from chicks from Ideal. I'm in South Carolina too. 1 came 2 days after being shipped and the other 3 shipments came the morning after they left the hatchery.

The first 2 were back in early 2006 and I did lose some chicks due to it being cold. They replaced or refunded them.

This time I ordered 2 shipments in late August and did not lose one. *Knock on wood* but they're 3 & 4 weeks old now.

I would do it again, but I've got an incubator so I hope I don't need to.

It is fun to get the call in the AM, "yes we have a box for Ashley Capps of baby chicks." And then you get there and you can hear peeping from inside the post office past the door. Ring the buzzer and they hand you a talking box of baby chicks. I love it!

Bantam eggs are just as eatable as any other egg.
Pickled bantam eggs are perfect size for crackers.

also there are many different things you can use the shells for,
blown out they can be used for any number of crafts.
I also have Old English game hens and their eggs are smaller yet than bantam eggs and make the cutest little center piece decorations.

I totally understand your concerns, I was surprised the first time I had heard that you could ship chicks.
But I got a package of chickies in the mail tuesday from a private breeder and all was well.
They were happy healthy and loud, the postman told me that the people at the post office asked him to take them right out to me because of the noise.

Mine were only in transit for about 20 hours or so, but I have heard of people waiting a little longer and the babies are still fine.

Get those babies!!

It's so exciting getting up early in the morning and turning on heat lamps and filling the feeder and waterer because you know your chicks are arriving that morning.

Chicks and ducklings, only a day or two old, almost kill you with cuteness.

edited to add: I liked it better when I ordered the turkeys, they shipped that afternoon, and were here the next afternoon.

Dunno if I'm more tired or hungry but I misread that as "chicken and dumplings, only a day or two old, almost kill you with cuteness."
