Ask the feed store where they get theirs! Most likely, in the mail.

Chickenluva, let your new wee chickies get close in size to your hens that you already have before you integrate them. Hens don't think that someone elses chicks are cute and cuddly.

There are lots of posts on here about how to integrate successfully.

Of course, you know that when you get your new arrivals that you must post pics because we love to see chicks!

I ordered some guineas from Ideal, it is fun to go to the post office and bring home that peeping box that you can see into without even opening it. I'd definitely order day olds again!

Six weeks ago I ordered 15 bantam chicks from Cackle. We had to wait a week for one of the varieties to hatch. Our P.O., called us when the chicks arrived and delivered them. There were 17 of the little critters in the box! One had a broken leg, and had to be put down. The rest are now happy, healthy and friendly. One of them I cannot identify yet. They are now almost 5 weeks old, eating pooping and one of them is already crowing!!! He stands on top of the waterer and stretches himself out in the morning and out comes a bit of a sqeaking sound. It's fun to watch. That is probably something we all have in common.

this was the BEST most comprehensive site we found about chicken breeds and a ton of other stuff.

great customer service, and even threw in a couple of extras because they couldn't promise a RIR roo (but ended up sending one anyway when the time came) plus they sent an extra BR pullet. they all came in safe and happy, (it took 2 1/2 days from hatching), and are 6 weeks old now and getting fatter and happier. they're healthy, fast growers and they've all been getting along.

we've had a couple of expected scratched toenails and goopy eyes of course, but nothing warm water and affection didn't fix. plus, we're on an island that is very very isolated from the rest of the islands, so we were concerned about the shipping too. but the PO said they get chicks shipped in all the time. we even gave them a heads up and they were on the look out for our peeping box, and called us at 6 am. now if we can only get some muscovy ducklings here. hmmm...

we even called mypetchicken a LOT of times with a ton of questions, but they were always nice and helpful. their hatching days are mondays, shipping on tuesday, so if you live close by them you may even get your peeps by wednesday (although they say thursday).

Thank you for all the info. I have also called Mypetchicken and was very impressed with their customer service rep. She spent a lot of time on the phone with me and was so knowledgeable. In the end, we've ordered 3 Easter Eggers (because my kids are dying for green eggs) and 2 BPRs. Its a small order, but we only wanted to add a few right now. We're hoping to add a few silkies in the Spring. We are so excited! I can wait for the box of cuteness to arrive. We should have them on Oct 22nd. I'll be sure to post a photo!

Thanks to everyone for all the great input. It really helped me make an informed decision.
