These cuties are my fist ever hatchery chicks. Shipped also! They are 10 Barres Plymouth Rock pullets. All do look like girls. I’ll feather sex them tomorrow. I want to give them today to recover from shipping stress. Boy are they loud! Way louder than my home hatched chicks. But they’ve had a tougher first few days of life :)

Awwwe they are so cute! Congratulations on your new flock! :ya

I ordered them thru TSC last Thursday. I received a text on Monday afternoon that they had shipped but tracking details only showed that the label had been printed. Estimated delivery for Thursday (tomorrow). Then Tuesday evening the tracking update showed they were in Miami - I’m 2 hours north of Miami. I set up the brooder :)

Then an hour later I got an email and text from TSC saying the delivery would be delayed until TUESDAY! What??! It’d be one thing if the chicks hadn’t shipped but they were supposed to be in Miami already. Nothing I could do but hope!
Got the call at 8am this morning that the chicks were at my local post office. Whew! Flew down there and got them - lol! All look good. One is less adventurous and has stayed under the MHHP. I did bring her out again to show her the food and water again. She wandered around a little bit and headed back under. Fingers crossed she’ll settle in and follow the others to fold and water later today.

So far I’m please with the experience- except for the heart palpitations regarding delivery timing - lol!

oh my! It just went dead quiet! Gotta go check on them!!

I was just going to say they let you know when they are cold or there water has ran out by screaming loudly. Glad they are getting everything sorted out.

I guess the micro nap helped. They’re all out right now, chirping away. I’m very happy to see ALL of them out moving around.

The chicks were very loud all day. But as the evening came they became quieter. They are in the family room where we are so it’s not because it was quiet around them. I think they are settling in and calming down. All is quiet right now - not a single peep :)

The chicks are now sounding very much like my home hatched chicks sounded. Cheeping lightly mostly. Someone screaming is now usually because someone didn’t get the memo it was nap time and found herself suddenly all alone and scared. They’re so cute when they do that - lol! I got up 3 times during the night to put a chick back with the group.
Interestingly several of the chicks slept on top of the MHHP all night and nap on top of it during the day. My home hatched all slept in the cave every night. Or at least on the leading edge of it. Even my 4 boys that are almost 3 weeks old go into their MHHP at night. I wonder if these shipped chicks are more cold hardened due to being exposed to cold temperatures during shipping as day olds...?
