My family has chicks coming this weekend. We are so excited but new to the chick thing! We feel we are for the most part prepared but still have a few questions.

At what age can the transition to being outside?
How old are they when they are full grown?
Do they all start maturing around the same time?

Thank you in advance!

How exciting!
1 - depends on your climate and whether you will be providing supplemental heat when they move out
2 - depends on the breed
3 - some breeds are faster to mature than others - what breed(s) are you expecting?

Most chicks will feather out around 6 weeks. at this time they will be almost independent of any heat lamp

Most hens will lay their first eggs around 18-25 weeks, but they will stop growing by around 13-15 weeks about. not quite sure on exact ages, and each chickens will be different

different breeds will definitely mature at different rate

It tends to be pretty warm here! Not much lower than 60 in the winter. We are bringing home 1 Orpington, 1 barred rock, and 1 Australorp. Thanks Again for the help!
