Thanks for the advice. After hearing from all I have done away with the bulb. I feel that was most of problem. Also getting a new thermometer

I think your next batch of chicks will be just fine. If you use 40watt bulb.You can find pretty accurate digital temp/humidity gauges on Amazon for under $20 .
