Chicks dying

:welcome :frow I don't think the pine shavings hurt the chicks but I agree about the temperature. I keep mine around 85/90 for the first week. I also put paper towels down with some crumbles for the chicks to peck at and Save-A-Chick electrolytes and vitamins in their water.

I have had no luck saving “dopey chicks”. Once they start “fading” I have not found an intervention that saves them. In fact, the harder I work, the faster they die. :barnie I think yours probably got chilled in transport and that really brings them down. It’s like they just shut down. I hope you don’t lose anymore. Good luck!

Yes we use those electrolytes. One just died on my chest. After watching 3 die and two already dead breaks my heart. Hope the others do ok! The rest seem lively and strong.

Can they get completely away from the heat of needed?

So sad for your losses.
ye the heat is in the center. And both ends aid the trough is large enough for them to get away.

Yes. Heat is in the center of 6+ foot trough. Turned one heat lamp off to keep temp about 85. I think these 5 that died were the weak ones. Paper towel now line the trough with chick feed on towels. Plenty of water. Hoping tomorrow there will be no more that have died. Thanks so much!
