Chicks eating shavings!

is this normal? My chicks are eating the small pine shavings.

Yes, it's normal for them to eat a few, but they should mostly be eating their crumbles.

How old are they? If they're in their first couple of days, you might try it without the shavings until they get used to the crumbles as being food, then they should be less interested in the shavings.

But as long as they drink plenty of water, they usually suffer no ill effects.
