so I give my chicks a huge feeder with lots of medicated chick pellets, some times bread and today yogurt for the first time. I noticed lastnight one of my chicks is eating the wood chips i put in the bottom oh their brooder. is that normal? wont the wood chips make them sick?

also i noticed my chicks was always scared of me till today. i been trying to hand feed them and they just shake and fight and chirp loud.
well today i gave them yogurt and now every time i go near their cage they run up to the edge and start jumping up and down till i pick them up.
i think they finally figured out i'm the "icecream man" and they lining up to see what i got today LOL

mine are. they will break off small pieces and eat it. i noticed they also dipping it in the water too. i tried to tell them its not chips and dip but they keep eating them even though they got lots of water and food. could it be they like the wood chips better than the chick starter feed? they are 14 days old

Yes they do. its just odd, my first flock didn't eat the bedding. only 1 of my chicks is eating it, and eating everything. i seen it eat a fly yesterday and i about gagged.

Even my hens nibble at wood shavings from time to time (less frequent now since it's only in nests at this time). My current batch of chicks spent their first day here eating dirt and wood particles from the deep litter  - they didn't decide food was actually edible until we sprinkled some on the door frame of the brooder.

strange chickies these are. but for 14 days old and already run to the edge of the brooder looking for me is so cute because my first flock didn't do that. they never liked humans at all after my neighbor killed some of them. he was a meth addict stealing from me at night so i got him evicted then he killed my flock.

Oh my gosh wow! I’m glad you took care of that! What breed is eating the chips? I’ve had a couple eat some and they turned out fine :)

That’s terrible. I’m so sorry for you.
