My Polish hen has been setting on eggs but today another hen climbed in her nest and they had a fight. One egg was lightly crushed with the chick inside. He was screaming his head off so I picked him out of the egg. His yolk sac was over 90% absorbed, and he did not look damaged or hurt in any way. Two more chicks hatched today so I am sure he was ready.
Big he's been under the hen all day today, is dry and cheeping like crazy but he has not opened his eyes and he cannot lift his head. It's like his neck is completely limp. He lays on his side under the hen and if I mess with him he kicks his legs and chirps his head off but he cannot stand, hold up his head, or open his eyes.
Is this normal for a chick that didn't hatch the natural way of picking himself out of the egg?
