2 of my chicks(the biggest of them) have figured out that they can fling all the food out of the feeder! Is this normal? They seriously can empty that thing in like 5 minutes. If normal, what type of feeder can I use to help prevent or at least cut down on the food loss?

I read a long time ago to never fill the feeder more than half full. It means feeding more often but it saves feed. Putting the feeder up higher helps too.

I have the same problem with my chicks. The first thing I did was divide the feeding area from the bedding. Another thing that was done was cutting a round hole on the cork board that slid over the feeder. I also use a round cork board that was place on top of the filler so they won't feed from the top area. I have not wasted feed in the last 2 weeks and water is much cleaner with the divider. I hope this help.

I would go through 2 quarts of food in less than a day when I was using the gravity feeders with the plastic quart bottle. I went and bought a long flat feeders that have holes for them to eat out of, used scrap wood to build a cover so they wouldn't poop in their food. I nolonger have wasted food.

These are the feeders that I started with.
