I just ordered 25 banties , they sent 29. They were sent Wed and arrived Friday . Since then I have lost 15 . I emailed the company and they have been very nice about sending out another complete order.

Since then I have read about them having problems or disease with there chicks. Does anyone have any info ?

Thanks ,Patty

Could you send them out to be tested? I think that would be so very important to do at this point..

A lot of time it's the stress from shipping. Some breeds don't cope as well as others. Add a little sugar to the water that you give them when they first arrive.

I have always ordered my chicks from Ideal and never had a problem at all. Been perfectly happy with them and have not lost one. I have ordered standard and bantams. Are you still losing them? Can you tell us about your set up, maybe we can help figure out what is happening to them if it's not from disease. I wish you the best of luck and hope you don't lose the rest

ETA I agree that you should have them tested just to be sure. It would help you figure out if there is anything you could possibly do if it happens again.

Do you have them under a brooder light? are they too hot or cold?

with all the high temps every state has been having the past week

i wouldnt be surprised by some dying in shipping or within a few days really.

i got a shipment from ideal a week ago wednesday and have lost 3 of them

1 was squashed in shipping(poor thing)

another was not very active at all and didnt look too good and died next day

and another we had to cull because all the other chicks beaked him to almost death the 2nd day

hopefully it is the heat as im sure a few of us on here are losing a chicken or 2 because of heat exhaustion

best of luck with the next batch and whats left of your first batch

I received 100 (105) chicks from Ideal last Friday the 17th and 100% were alive when I put them in the brooder, since then, I only lost 2, they were the runts and I don't think they were getting any water no matter how many times I put there beaks in the water.

I have another order of 100 due from Ideal this Friday 7/31. I have a lot of faith in Ideal, espcially their service. I had an order of 20 ducks and one of the ducklings was missing an eye and the other one was always closed. Ideal was willing to credit me for the one duck, the duck later died at several weeks old.

On another note, I ordered 100 EE's from another hatchery, they shipped 106, and I had 7 die the first week. I sell the chicks on craigslist because when I order 100 and sell 80 on craigslist, my chicks get paid for and I get to meet new chicken people. Our goal is to have a nice variety and have approx 120 layers by christmas.

I read on another[part of this forum about chicks from ideal dieing .

they are under a light , chick feed , plenty of water . They can get away from the light if they want also. I have dipped there beaks a bunch .

There customer service has been great .

I have always been pretty happy with Ideal, ordered from them 3 times. This last time though all my black frizzles are just about naked. Not sure why thier feathers didn't come in. Maybe too much frizzle in the jeans...
