I have allot of back yard and front yard chickens. They all started out feral and started to make my home theirs.I started taking care of some hens and they were hatching and so on.But here in Hawaii we have mongoose's and they would pretty much eliminate any baby chicks. So I have built coops and have been raising them up to 6 weeks. Then they are old enough with the hen to roost in trees and keep ahead of the mongoose.I have been having trouble with the young getting fowl pox.I vaccine up to 30 at a time at 5-6 weeks. But my problem is they are catching the pox before that 6 to 8 weeks.I would like to vaccine sooner if at all possible, their wings just seem so small any earlier to be putting that double needle through. It is the dry pox and not allot of them get it but it is miserable for them and actually I just had one die today.they seem to get it mostly around their eyes to where they can't even see.Is there a earlier way to vaccine at about 2-3 weeks?I probably have about 50 to 60 birds that come and go.I am surround by macadamia orchid and forest.I do have some that do actually roost in my trees.I really enjoy there company and is a good pass time. Many have become good pets. They are smarter then people think.Any help on how to vaccine for fowl pox at a earlier age?
