Chicks laying on their side and stretching a wing

I have a Wyandotte that can't help herself. We joke and say that the sun makes her boneless. She'll be walking through the shade just fine, then BAM, as soon as the sun hits her she's all sprawled out.

That was too funny gryeyes!! Mine love to stretch out and display the one wing. It must feel great. I think any posture to encourage a nap is awesome indeed!

I just had my chicks out and they did the same. I just sat and watched. they keep scratching one foot in the air.

So glad I found this thread....newbie and this happened on one of our first outdoor journeys....I prayed they were enjoying the sun but feared they were going in shock! Thanks for the info!

It’s a gorgeous morning here. 77degrees with a slight warm breeze. I bring my chicks out twice a day for short supervised outings and this morning they are sunbathing. I find it adorable.
They are 4 weeks old now and different personalities are definitely showing. One is always first to climb into my hand and inspect what’s going on. The smallest one HATES to be picked up. Overnight they got a bunch of new feathers on their back right in front of their tail feathers. It’s amazing how fast they grow.

This is my second set of chicks. When I let them outside, they wind up laying against the side of the pen and stretching one wing out. It seems weird, is their skin irritated or something? They act fine, I just don't want them suffering. I appreciate any help.
Hehe I freaked when I first saw our birds do this. But yeah, typically this is how they catch rays. (Often accompanied by a sun drunk expression on their faces).

They also dust bathe which looks convulsive.
