Chicks outside??

Pfft my chicks dont talk to me, they run from me

I raised mine from babies and they run from me too but I don't free feed them like my dogs, so when I put food out, I make a point of petting them. Most of them don't like it and try to move away but they all crowd around the dish so it's hard to get away from my hand and hold your place at the food. LOL

If we go out of the house and didn't put feed down when we let them out to forage, they come running to see if we are going to put food out. Sometimes they follow my husband around the yard when he goes out.

i have raised mine from babies too.. my bjgs dont like to be touched as much but my speck sussex love and crave attention.. practically jump right in your arms..they all come running when they think i have food..love to watch them..today one was in pasture chasing a moth was too funny..love these days watching my chickens..

I have a speckled Sussex and she is so tiny. She jumps up in my lap. She is the only one that does. I can hold the others, some of them anyway but she is the one that jumps up on me. Her name is Little Bit.

Whew, glad someone finally said 3 weeks. I was getting worried. Our chicks were starting to peck each other in the brooder so I moved them into an outside pen before they did some serious harm to each other. (Of course we immediately started having ferocious thunderstorms to add to my misgivings.) They are 3 weeks and a day...Americaunas...and starting to feather in nicely. They have a cover and a tub to get into, but I'm still worried. I'm in Alabama, highs mid-eighties and lows near 70. Fingers are crossed.

I moved mine to their coop at 2 weeks. I'm in TX and it was already warm. Mid 80s for highs and 70-73 for lows. That's not too far off from my house temp, so I didn't see much difference between their coop & the cardboard box in my house. I put the brooder lamp in the coop and made sure there were no drafts (blocked off lower ventilation). For the first week I kept the lamp on 24/7, but by the next week it was obvious they were hot during the day so I kept the lamp on only at night for another week. They did wonderfully and were so much happier in the coop.

I think it just depends on where you live and what kind of coop setup you have. Not saying my way was the right way, but it worked for me in my circumstances. I was also out there checking on them all the time at first, so they got the same amount of attention as they would have if they were still in the house.

yeah I raise mine from hatchlings.. I hatched them lol. Thats cute and a good way to do it. I give them food 24 7..

Mine are enjoying outside, love the treats. They are a bit afraid of me, raised from chicks too :( Maddie came up to me when I was out in the yard drawing and making sure my roo was going to be nice. June and Maddie are the braver two and not as timid. Jade, Genevieve and Faith are shyer.
