Chicks Pecking Each Other to Death

I have a broody JG so we bought a chick one week ago. They were doing fine except the Mom got out of the coop, the chick followed and the chick was pecked by the other hens while the Mom was dust bathing. Now I am worried about the Mother pecking the chick so have them seperated. This poor little chick must be in pain. She is not eating or drinking. The mother is very upset to be seperated but will she peck the chick if I put her with it?

I have never experienced a scenario like this, but given how protective mothers are of their young, I tend to think she would not join the chick pecking club. I would put the chick back with mom and watch carefully.

I have 2 nhr, 2pr, and 2?'s (white rocks?), yesterday i noticed my bigger white rock was
bleeding, so i watched and didnt see anything. This morning I got up to find the smallest
nhr, pecking everyone and drawing blood, they are 14 weeks old and need to go out! I took
the bully out and put her in a cage near the others, but she looks real sad and i feel so
bad. She's just laying there doing nothing and when i look at her she turns away! The others
are happy and noones' fighting, i feel so guilty leaving her alone!! Tomorrow is the big day, the
coop will be ready by 9am. I cant wait to get them outside and let them roam around, Im hoping
it will be a cure all for Miss Freshy??? I bought my girls from a feed store in NH, and the man
who works there has had his girls outside since they were 4 weeks old! NH is pretty cold! Im a
new Mom and was too afraid to put them out so soon! I think the pecking has more to do with
the need for space than breed! imo Good Luck Everyone

Hi all I have 4 chicks but I sadly had to swap one due to a bad lump on the neck. The chick I swaped her for is a barnevelder but my araucana is pecking her and pushing her around is this just because the barnevelder is a bit younger and new to the group we just got her today.

I recently just had this happen. . Sadly I woke up 2 4 dead babies. One was bleeding in several places. The others didn't have any bloody spots. I had noticed the bigger chick would pounce on the smaller ones ..sometimes run I to them. Nothing that to worry some. The bully wanted out and to be held so I did..it didn't want me to touch the others and fussed when I tried. It ended up sitting on my shoulder when I wasn't paying attention pecked my eye 2 x. The 2 small babies left in that hatch are chirping I am guessing they moss the bigger 1. But u am not putting it back in I do have a small batch of hatched babies. They are 2 weeks younger I do not think I need to put them together. I really loved those that just passes away. They were unique and different.
