Good Morning and Happy Easter!
I need opinions on putting my 7 week old chicks out in the coop. They have really outgrown their brooder.
They are fully feathered.
Any opinions from someone in my zone?
Thanks,
Dana

No problem putting them in the coop, but temps here are still in the mid twenties at night. Would think it might be still too cold where you are without some supplemental heat.

7 week olds should probably have heat around 55 or 60 degrees - so if you can put your brooder lamp/heat lamp in the coop I sure would. Have you checked to see what temp your coop is at?

Really, the heat is the only issue I can think of, unless this is the first time you have used your coop - in which case double check to see if it is secure - 7 week olds can get into/out of spaces a full grown hen can't.

Just my opinion!

Happy Easter

Good Morning Dana, Your chicks should be fine during the sunny days.. Are they weened from the heat in the brooder? I never like to make mine go "cold turkey"..
No pun intended, I just don't know how else to say it..

did you hatch them ??

I put my 4 1/2 week old chicks out yesterday. They too were feathered
and outgrowing brooder. They loved it. I have one red heat lamp
in 8x8 coop. Temp. this morning was 34 in coop, but they were up
and active. Took them a warm breakfast of egg and bread.
They were glad to see me and wanted to be held.

Hey! Yes, these are the ones I hatched. They dont have any light on them at the night, so i guess that is considered weaned...
I have a red light in the coop I can turn on at night....
Husband is LOSING patience!!
