I started out with 8 day old chicks 3 years ago. One i gave to a friend since it was a rooster, 1 died from heat, 1 died from a not sure (internal?) sickness, 1 died from a neck problem, and one died from another unknown problem. So, I have 3 left. (Sorry to depress everyone). I dont feeel so sad anymore because I can feel each hen that has passed away and feel they are quite close. So, is it just me or do some people feel like they would be replacing their first babies by buying new ones? I don't want to buy more and replace them...

Anybody else feel this way?

Naw. I don't look at it as replacing beloved pets as much as expanding my pet family. Each one holds a special place, which will not change, but to add new ones, who will create their own special place, is exciting. It's also moving forward without leaving those you love behind.

see my post under chicks, second time around, and today i swapped out two roos, i was attached to the first bunch ten weeks old

cheers

I have been replacing birds since day one. My birds are my pets, and I adore each and everyone. But I also love eggs, so I try to keep my numbers up to get the most eggs.

I remember when my 12 1/2 year old boxer died. I was heartbroken but I only lasted 10 days before I had another one to sleep in my bed.

My vet told me it was a great tribute to her memory that I was willing to go through it all again.

I feel the same way about my chickens.
