Chicks too hot??

my chicks are about 5-6 weeks old and outside full time........we live in california and it has been in the 60's at night. i had a 250 watt red bulb in their coop but they were sleeping far away from it. i changed to a 100 watt red bulb and the sleep on their perch, right under it, side by side and seem very comfortable all night.

I have never used a thermometer and have never lost any chicks. (except for some DOA chicks from MMH last spring)

I just go by how the chick are acting. They will tell you if they are too cold or too hot etc.
