Chicks Wasting Food?!

Do you have a problem with feed spilling?

  • Yes. There's more food on the ground than in the feeder.

Nope. My chicks would never think of making a mess. Not since I made this feeder, which is the thread @aart posted. More poop on the platform, than chick feed, after a full day with 11 chicks.

Haha, that's what I'm shooting for!
Has this feeder idea been around for a while or did you just invent it? (Could be I just forgot to pay attention before )
I'm also working on making a larger platform area like yours here because I'm discovering that shavings are the worst!! This is my first time using them, always had stall pellets for my previous broods and never had a problem with bedding being flung every which direction. Maybe because pellets are heavier? Oh well, the much larger brooder space when they go out in the coop next week will probably help though.

The black part is actually blue tape I didn’t want to use glue or anything. Sorry I forgot to mention how to keep it in. Lol
Thank you for clarifying! :D:D:D

Yep, clear lid on chobani brand is really nice....and a funnel that just happened to be the exact right diameter after trimming off 'handle'. Works good but doesn't hold much.
That 32 oz size is big enough for a small batch of chicks and more than I'm using now.
:thumbsup
I wish it could be screwed onto something heavier like a brick to prevent getting knocked over. Maybe silicone glue?
*edit* OHHH you're right! It only holds as much as the funnel.
