Hello, I have four chicks, who are 3 weeks old on Saturday. Two are Buff Orpingtons, one is a Marsbar and one is a Cream Legbar.
I noticed this morning that there was some bright red blood in their poo- i'm not sure which one as whenever I watch the poo looks fine!
I immediately thought coccidiosis- as we've lost a chick to this before. They are on medicated food, but I assume that it is not 100 percent preventative. I cleaned them out and disinfected the cage and have been fishing the bloody stool out whenever I see it. They seem fine in themselves at the moment, eating and drinking etc.
I rung the vets when a few more droppings appeared but they had no space and told me to ring back tomorrow morning. I do have a dosage of tylan that goes in the water, which I was considering using, but i'm not sure if the dosage would be any different for chicks so young.
I would really appreciate any advice until I can get to the vet!

Do you have photos of the poop?

Tylan will not treat Coccidiosis. You need Corid (Amprolium), Toltrizuril or a sulfa antibiotic.

If you are in the U.S. you can find Corid at most feed stores like TSC. It comes in liquid or powdered form, usually it's in the cattle section.

Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.

Unfortunetly, i'm in the UK and so we don't have anything like that. I'll have a look online to see if there is anything like that available near me.
The only thing my vet proscribes for chickens is Tylan and Loxicom as an anti inflammatory. It was a while ago since I last had coccidiosis but I don't recognise any of those antibiotics. The only thing they ever give me as an antibiotic is Tylan, so I'm certain that's what they'd have prescribed me before.

Oh, if you are in the UK, look for Harker's Coxoid in bird shops or wherever you purchase your supplies. Dosing is on the label.

Tylan is mainly used to treat symptoms of respiratory disease, but sometimes a vet may prescribe it for other illnesses and conditions.
