Anyone know the best way to remove the clumped up wads of poop on chicks' butt? Is it important to remove it? I'm afraid it might cause "back-up". Suggestions?

That's a condition known as pasty butt. It's very important to remove the poo off the chicks, if you don't they won't be able to excrete and they'll die.

Soak their bottoms with warm water and very gently work the poop off (don't pull on it). Once you get it off, dab a bit of Vaseline to prevent it the poop from sticking again. Some people add a little bit of apple cider vinegar to the drinking water but I never did.

There are a lot of posts about pasty butt here on BYC. If you want to read more about it, put that in the Search box and start reading.

Good luck!
