Hi, i have two 4 month old chicks that seem to have cocci. Ive been giving them corid for 4 days now. The poop bloody like it was the first couple days. It is now white and sometimes and dark blackish color, but no red. Does this mean they are getting better? They still seem very lethargic and weak. Only one of the 2 will eat pretty well while the other is barely starting to try to eat a little afain. Please help. Should i keep giving them corid or may it be something else?

First, are you sure you are giving them the correct dose? I just went thru this same thing and mine are all fine now. Its 1 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, if you are using powder. If you have some that aren't drinking, then you should either syringe them the medicated water every few hours, making sure not to get it in the lungs, or give them a straight dose. I would be treating my whole flock. You can also try making a mash out of their food with the medicated water in hopes the one not eating much will eat that better. Mine were all good by day 5. I used sav a chick probiotics after the Corid was done. Id keep with the Corid for a few more days.

It takes longer than 4 days for mine to bounce out of the infections. Damage to gut not repaired yet. Lots of white when eating little means birds are catabolizing lots of protein, especially muscle, to keep going. Weigh loss usually then ongoing. Bird not eating I would supply with electrolytes in water. Hopefully water intake still good.

Give another day for recovery to show. Once they are on upswing they get back into healthy condition in a little over a week.

Im giving the right dosage hopefully they will start feeling better soon.

Thanks for the information, i have some electrolytes, i may give them some, but they both are drinking the water with corid in it pretty well on their own. Sometimes i get a spoon and make sure they drink a whole spoonfull. A dew months ago when one of my other chicks had cocci, by the 3rd day she was back to her notmal self. Maybe these little babies just need a little more time.
