I'm glad that I didn't separate them, they seem very happy this morning. The hens took turns getting up and eating, while a few sleepy heads stayed under whichever hen was sitting. Then the hens both sat down, all fluffed up, and the chicks vanished underneath/between them. :)

That was kind of my logic. They've been sharing golf balls without fussing (sometimes one has almost all, sometimes they have equal numbers... but no pecking or fighting over them that I've seen). I kind of figured that if they wanted to share the "eggs" they would be okay sharing the chicks... kind of like that was what was natural for them. So far the chicks run between the two and climb over both of them and they don't seem to care. I've never seen the silkies more than a few feet from each other anyway... I check them every few hours though, just in case!

I wouldn't worry either. I let all three of my Silkies brood 9 chicks in July. Here is a picture of them. They only fought once which resulted in one of the hens having a huge bald spot on her head.

I love how none of your chickens fight when there two moms, but my two cochins almost killed all my chicks when fighting for them. O well...All chickens are different, just like people

How wonderful that they are jointly mothering the chicks!! Your photos are great; the one with the little butt sticking out from between the two moms should get a prize! Also love the photo from Year of the Rooster with the 3 moms and the little head just peeking out of the fluffy pile!! That is darling.

Keep up the reports and photos!! Thanks for posting!

Here are some pics of when they are older. I have all the birds except for the SebrightxAustralorp and the red SilkiexEE mix. Oh, and I still have the Silkies (though I'm trying to find homes for them).

I don't have any pictures of the Silkies when they were grown, but here are some when they were in the "ugly" stage
