Chicks

Today my chicks turned 8 weeks, well my rooster was pecking the other chick, my husband thought he was trying to mate with other chick. Are they old enough or still to young?

They are probably too young to actually mate, but I've had little cockerels that age start harassing pullets - whether they're trying to mate or just pulling on their heads trying to dominate, I'm not sure. Just make sure they have plenty of space to get away from each other.
