Chickswich

Angel was attacked by a large red tail hawk that sadly has came back to the area and on occasion tries to take off with one of the hens, although it has not killed any more.

Now fast forward to about five or six months ago. Two of the ducklings were boys (ugh) and Hershey, the girl, has only just started laying. She is cranking out an egg a day, even though Sunny and Ebony, the males, never give her a break. So, we decided to hatch some of her eggs in the hopes of getting more girls. Three eggs went in the incubator that day.

When the three ducklings hatched they w

Sadly choco was weak and died, but the other ducklings were strong and soon came to love people.

Hershey died when her children were only two months old, so she never got to see them grow up. She was a sweet girl who loved treats. She did not like cuddling close, but she is very close to our hearts nonetheless. She is missed, and always will be. Hershey with her buddies:

Lady Licorice's brother, Lolly the Popsicle, has become dominant male, biting the other ducks through the chicken wire. They are mourning for Hershey, and do not even try to fight back.
On a happier note, we had just got three comical turkey poults to raise for thanksgiving. Pictures will come of them shortly.

The turkeys were yet another reverse trio, and here are some pictures of the now two month old male struttin his stuff for the lady.

When the ducklings were five months old, we got three beautiful girls to even out the sex ratio. We let the males free range while we put all the females in one big pen to get aquainted. But Lolly the Popsicle had other ideas. He abandoned his love of Lady Licorice and began "dancing" through the fence with the dangerously charming Misty.

Meanwhile, Ebony had noticed that Lady Licorice was alone. Their eyes met across a lush pasture. Ebony, madly in love, ran for Licorice, but she ran away with a loud quack. No more romance between Licorice and Ebony (who happens to be her father).

Princess Patches and Bella preferred to sit and gossip, with Misty occasionally breaking away from her debut to join them.
