Children and chickens

Another thing you might teach the children is to sit down when handling them. I just had a horrible accident yesterday with one of my baby Icelandics getting accidently stepped on by my 4yr old

I am still crying. They(chicks and son) were outside and the chicks were following him then he turned around to look at them and one had run up behind him and got stepped on. Be careful and have fun. We now have a sit down to play with the chicks rule and we don't take them on walks anymore(it was so cute all of them following my son but not worth the danger).
Good Luck,

RIP little Peep we are sorry....

My girls are 6,5,and 3 and they all handle the chicks. We just try and make sure everyone washes afterwards. I grew up on a farm and we had chickens when I was a small child.
Your granddaughter will be fine, just wash her hands and don't let her kiss them.

Your granddaughter will be just fine! My 3 year-old love ours and touches them all of the time! Just make sure that she washes her hands good after she holds or touches them.

Precious picture...how sweet. She looks like she is a gentle child and not overly rough with them.

Our chicks (5 weeks old) get snuggles and kisses. Especially three of them. They are snugglers.
