Any tips on smoothing out his canter? As soon as I ask, he bolts and tries to overpower me. It's very dangerous, because it is hard to regain control. He just gallops off, and tries to do the jumps like barrels.

I would try changing your bit or using a hackamore, something he is more responcive

I have tried pretty much everything except a hackamore. Heis currently in a D ring snaffle with rubber bars, it works better than anything I have tried so far.

I find that if a horses mouth is hardened it normally does better with a hack then a bit
