chilly Dec. blues

I live in Wisconsin, burrrrr. It gets so depressing with out the sun.

DAWG53, thanks for the warm southern welcome and I know after you read my winter blues post you are even happier outside in your 75 degrees. Your middle 40's tonight sounds sweet to me, we will have a low of 24! My hens are secured under their ceramic infrared heat bulb. I really worried about them getting frost bite on their combs last winter and bought two of these heat bulbs. They are set to come on whenever it drops below 35. This afternoon the girls finally ventured out in their yard, most of the snow was melted but they were careful to avoid the patches here and there. Didn't stay long though, their feet got cold. They kinda hop from one foot to the other and look pretty silly. Hmmm, I think I look like that a lot myself.
Used to live in Marietta, GA and went on vacation twice to Jekyll Island. Great place to relax and explore. Lucky you for being so near there!

Hi to you, Sharon, and your chicks over there in northeast Ohio,
This is the first week of lower temperatures and our second snow fall of about an inch. This is normal. The chicks handle it all pretty good, they only stay inside when it rains or there is snow on the ground. They inspire me!
Thanks for the welcome and happy holidays to you all,
Linda

Don't be depressed Magnolia in Wisconsin. Hang in there with me and my hens as we over winter again together. Keep dreaming about some chicks! We will see the spring soon, its only a few months. In the mean time, Vit D-3 perks me and some good full spectrum lighting in the house that also gives off Vit D.
Thanks for the welcome!

from Twentynine Palms in the California high desert!

Well, as you have seen, you'll find no shortage of friendly folks here at BYC! Living out at the end of a quiet country road has it's advantages, but it sure can be lonesome too. I bet your place is just heaven in the Spring! Hang in there, it'll be here before you know it!

Warning: BYC can become seriously addicting!!

Thanks for the welcome, Kevin. Tell me how do you keep all those scrappy powerful dogs away from your feathered family? I've been scouting for a dog but it is so hard with two sweetie hens and a Manx cat that now rules the house and acreage. I would like to do a rescue but keep thinking I better go the hard way and get a puppy dog I can train to accept my vulnerable pet family.

Thanks, Cheerio!
I am happy for you on your own acres in the high desert of CA. I used to live in Ranchita, CA out in the middle of no where and loved it. It was another kind of paradise in comparison to here on our little farm near Kalida, Ohio. It is close to heaven in the spring here and I rarely get lonely, too much fun stuff to do. Then there is winter and at times I think I must be crazy staying here surrounded by nothing but black and white and quiet.
I am so glad to have found all these neat people on BYC who love chicks, that an addiction sounds right up my alley!

Hello Big Bear Mt. CA!
I spent about 20 yrs. living all over CA and I sure miss it at times, sigh! But I am in love with Ohio too. Your girls sound as smart as mine!
