Hi folks, yesterday my chinese goose disappeared, her mate has been wandering and honking, but doesn't seem agitated- is it possible she is hidden away with eggs? she lost the first bunch of eggs to flooding- we have a pond, is it possible she is down there with a nest?

no sign of her at all, and the gander has begun protecting the ducks- i lost my drake the day after the goose disappeared- so when a goose goes broody, do they just vanish like that?

The gander usually sticks by... hm! Curious!
Let us know if you find her. My friend's African was ripped off her nest by a raccoon.

Hoping for the best!

no sign of her, although the gander will disappear periodically and he is picking his chest feathers- any idea what thats about?

I disagree that the gander usually sticks by. I have at least 4 ganders in my flock of 6. When the (known) goose is on the nest laying eggs the others will be close by waiting on her, but today she is on the nest (broody). When I noticed she was missing, the rest of the gaggle was in the front yard and the goose was on her nest. The nest area is about 1/8 mile away from where the rest of the geese were hanging out.

Most times the males will not stick close by so as not to draw attention from predators.

You have no idea where her new nest is located? I'm sure the gander will at least go check on her, especially when she comes off the nest to eat. Maybe sit outside and watch him for a while and see if he will 'show' you where she is hiding.

thats given me some hope! i thought i heard her faintly this afternoon, we live on ten acres of hilly rocky area, so some of the area is inaccessible to me, i will watch him tomorow- any signs from him that she is ok? they are both in their first year

The brown one looks more like an African mix, chinese are supposed to have smooth neck feathers and he also looks to have a partial dewlap.

ETA: And he doesn't have much of a knob.
