Hi! We rescued a little lady Chinese Goose from a situation that wasn’t good for her [extremely muddy run, no forage or fresh water for lord knows how long, lived on scratch, and wet feather.]

Her name’s Heather. We’ve been giving her supervised baths to help with her feathers and we’re currently providing her apple cider vinegar solution in case she’s got any respiratory infection since we don’t have an exotic vet anywhere near us.

What stuck with her is her….poops. We call them “rocket shits”. When I say rocket, I mean EXPLOSIVE. Several times a day for over 48 hours and we’ve had her for four days. We’re concerned, but we’re getting conflicting information: that it’s a sign of illness and that it’s common in laying waterfowl to be having diarrhea and explosive poops a lot. They’re green, now more grassy since we finally got her eating forage and are usually pretty watery. I’ll attach some of the pics [icky warning] I’ve gotten and the one peculiar thing I found in her poop. I’m just trying to figure out if there’s something I can do for her at home or if I should even be worrying.

Thank you for any advice, I’m aware this isn’t going to be professional but I’ll take what I can get. Please remember that I can’t see any vets due to lack of transportation and time on my ride’s part, so being told to see a vet won’t be helpful :(

Some things worth noting:
- She’s currently laying eggs every other day.
- She had a diet change from only eating chicken scratch to cob, a little bit of layer feed, duck treats and forage.
- she’s got a really good appetite and she’s very active.
- she’s had to stay indoors with us because of her wet feather problem and we’re having a cold snap.
- she’s around 9 months old.
- she DOES have normal poops every so often, especially at night.

Barring an obnoxious odor to the poops, they are likely caused by a very wet diet. ACV isn't going to do anything. Try to get her to eat some boiled rice with a little keifer, buttermilk, or yogurt stirred in. That may help solidify poops.

One or two milliliters of Pepto Bismol twice today will also solidify poops. But if this is caused by bacterial infection, it will come back.

Hey, I forgot to respond to this. Turns out she just needed a lot more fiber. She's been having more healthier poops than diarrhea/rocket shits now. I'll keep this on the burner in case it comes up again.
