What breed are they?

You don't need a pond for them and you can raise them with your chickens.

But won't they miss the water? I always think of ducks in water or near water.
My chickens think of water as a barrier that they cannot cross.
That just makes me more interested in them.

You can give them a small cat litter pan full of water and they are happy as can be. Mine love playing in their water pan.

Thank you
The none feathered foot is a Speckled Sussex roo over an EE. I was really hoping to get one from those girls. The other one is a bantam. I have a real mix possibility there with one being a silky (I just took a closer look and there are 5 toes, though the spacing looks not so good) . There is a silky roo an Old English Game roo and for hens I have a silky, a japanese bantam, a porcelain d' uccle, and I know I am missing one, but just can not think of it. Interesting that they look the same except for the feet. I am hatching some of my backyard mix to improve my incubating.

I candled and have good news and bad news. The good news is that every single one of my own eggs from my flock was growing great. I only have one Rooster so that means his ummmm fertility is great!

The bad news is that 6 out of a dozen of my Naked neck eggs from Superchemicalgirl didn't grow at all. I cracked them open and they all were fertile. They had a long trip in really cold weather and an extra day of shipping to deal with, the risks of relying on the postal service. The 6 remaining ones looked to be growing good.

I have 18 coturnix quail eggs in there too now, but they won't be candled. To make some room I gave my broody hen 4 more eggs from the incubator. So my count is:

Broody hen has 11
22 chicken eggs in bator
18 quail eggs in bator

I am not in the Molting Chicken Picture contest, but I HAD to take a picture of my Betsy today. Poor thing!

Yes, that's a BR pullet. Honest.
< trying not to snicker >

She kept trying to come into the house, actually made it in twice. Snatched up a Styrofoam bead, too, and ate it before I could stop her. Oh, like THAT'S gonna help regrow your feathers, silly girl!

Go to the sporting goods section in Walmart. I found a flashlight much more powerful for about the same price range. Still not as good as an actual candler, I'm sure but I really like it. Of course I dont have it within easy enough reach to tell you what it is but worth looking.
