Chinese quail color variations!e

Please note: I did get pooped on from unhelpful finches while getting some half decent photos of the females.
Here's my normal silver from the side:

My camera likes to enhance colours that aren't really as bright as they seem sometimes. I'm still working on a better photo of the lighter silver.

The silver have the same pattern as the wild type but in grey and the lighter silver still shows the pattern but much lighter.

We haven't got red breasted, blue face, pearl, or whites here. I know combinations of colours/mutations are possible and that affects the patterns on their feathers. I love the blue face ones.

Most males should have the red on their tummy but the red breasteds have a lot more, right up to their chins and up into their wings, and they also have a different bib with a thicker band of black/grey and just a very thin white line under that.

This site shows some caramel females and a silver red breasted: http://button-quail.tripod.com/id4.html

I am trying to get a photo of a chick, female and male in each colour but it's a work in progress.

Here are what I call caramel (top) and cinnamon (bottom):

Your quail are gorgeous! Are you in the north or South Island? I’m in the South Island. I think I know someone in the north island that breeds white Chinese quail! I feel like I have 1 quail that may look like your caramel and 1 that may look like your cinnamon. I’m not 100% tho so I’ll need to go get more pics!

It might be your caramel we can't get over here actually, I think it's exclusive to your part of the world in fact! I saw it when I was obsessing over colours and what my chicks might be, so confusing though, especially when people have different names for the same colours, and then all the dilutes and combinations and mutations.... feel like I need a degree in genetics to understand it all!
I wonder if it's mostly your camera then, but it sure does make them all look very pretty! Here's another 3 of mine, wanna swap a white and a caramel? :gig

I'm up in Auckland. How's your weather been? We've had a bit of wind, rain and thunder and it's supposed to get chilly tonight, but nothing too serious (unlike poor Taranaki).

The caramel ones are my favourite and I've finally bred a couple of boys. They are still young at the moment but I'm looking forward to seeing them all coloured up.

I don't think my daughter would let me anyway  have you seen eyes like my boy before? I assume it's something to do with his colouring but they're quite creepy and gross

I have the same problem - our daughter would keep them all if she could! I have some males with grey eyes. I've also had wild coloured boys with bright red eyes. Now that's kind of freaky!

Well at the moment it’s raining hard lol! And the sky is pretty grey.

Yes the caramel quail are soo cute! I’m pretty sure one of my cinnamons may actually be a caramel. I have actually noticed before that one of my cinnamons is much darker than the other.

That's interesting, I thought silvers were one of the colours where you couldn't tell sex by colour, but yours clearly has redish vent feathers and a darker bib than mine do! I wonder if yours has something else in there too or if mine are just female colouring (I've not confirmed either way yet).
I'd love to get a pied/tuxedo one day!

As long as they are not tuxedo (white belly) you should actually be able to see the pink vent feathers on all mature silver males. The bib is not always there, but the vent feathers should be, at least if the bird is more than 8 weeks old.

Oh really? Thank you, I'm not sure where I read that!
So does that mean every male other than a tuxedo or a white will have some shade of red/pink vent feathers or are there other exceptions?
