A fox outside the chicken run this morning caused the chickens to fly around and panic, and after I got out there to scare it away (it didn't get in or get anyone- whew) I noticed one of my pullets had blood coming from her beak. After cleaning it up, it seems like she must have hit it and chipped part of her upper beak, not too far from her nostril. It's at the top of her beak, and the chip is still attached by a little piece of beak- sort of like when you get a hangnail.
I cleaned it with an antiseptic and applied some blue coat to it so the other birds don't peck at the area. Should I attempt to pull off the chipped part? It's not too deep, but I left it attached for now, not sure if it's needed for healing or if it can fall off on its own. Will try to get a pic.
Thanks.
