Chipmunks, do they pose a threat to my chickens??

I have had or Had a chipmunk in my horse stall all spring and summer.I house my duck's in there at night and some of my bantam's roost in the rafter's at night.I also had 2 hen's in there with babie's and never had any problem's.I did clean out all the old hay and everything a couple of week's ago and didn't see any sign of holes or anything so maybe it just moved on.I would think they would pretty much be after bit's of scratch or feed.

well this is what I was really wondering and I got all the answers. So I got a surprise call from hubby saying he will be home tonight, which means this weekend him and I are going to let the dogs loose in the barn and get them out of there and then fix any small holes they have been getting through with some tin or wood. thank you for all the info. If after this they still get in, well I might just have to get a bit more aggressive with them. :)

I was afraid of that. I think I might have the answer to why I'm not getting any eggs from at least 20 hens...

The chipmunks are bad here. Hundreds of them, if not thousands. I live with my in-laws and they won't let us shoot/kill any pest animals (or even our own, we have to quietly sneak them off the property and bring them back in ziploc bags for the freezer), even though the chipmunks and rabbits are consuming many pounds of hay daily. Costing us a lot of money. I'm thinking I may put poison out and just not mention it. It doesn't help that my in-laws leave dishes of water out for them either. Argh.

I wouldn't want them in my coop.

They're cute but they can carry Hanta virus and probably salmonella.

Try Just One Bite in bait tubes.
Looked at bate traps, will go back and search for bate tubes. I need something that will be safe for dogs. We have a dog and both neighbors have dogs close to us.

Get a good treadle feeder with a spring loaded door and keep the spring set pretty stiff. Once the feed is gone they are going to have to spend their time hustling for food and won't be messing with your chickens. The eggs though, like squirrels they are omnivores and will kill chicks and eat eggs.

Do plenty of research before buying a feeder. Feeders like the granda feeder are not rodent proof including chipmunks. You can find videos online with chipmunks opening one of those feeders.
