My New Rooster "Vinnie" From the TV show "Welcome back Knotter". His feet are messed up but thats not why I started This thread. Its about is beak, when we got him I noticed it looked a little messed up but then i saw that it started to seperate from his beak. He wouldn't drink only a little bit. So my dad pulled of the "beak chip" which was holding on only by a little stuff. It looked like it hurt but then when I put him down he went strait to the water drinking thing. Sooo I think he's going to be fine but is there I should be worried about or like put any antibiotics on it just continue my Thread.

One of my pullets chipped her beak just like that last year. What I did was use some Blu-kote and with a q-tip, dabbed the Blu-kote on the beak to hide the skin. I kept the blu-kote on the beak as needed to hide the skin until the beak grew back in. This will take a couple of months.

However the beak will be tender for a couple of weeks and hard for him to pick up food. I was damping the feed for my pullet and all the others at that time. It made it easier for her to eat without injuring her beak and feeling pain.

So just watch that others don't bother his beak and keep the blu-kote on it. (this will help with any infections) and dampen feed for a couple of weeks and he should heal up completely.

Oh and welcome to BYC!!

Great! It is going to take a few months for the upper mandible to grow out past the lower mandible. So give it time.

Keep us posted! :)

Sorry about the size and weirdness of the post. His beak as you can see is much better and his toes are flat with the ground which makes it hard for Vinnie to roast, roost, rost? if you know the spelling reply quickly. thanks
