Chipping away at rights...

I dont agree with taking any rights away the way its been happening - even along with the entire "raise taxes to pay for....*insert whatever here*" scenarios; from smoking to gun control, to ammunition, to again - *insert situation here*

Now, with that being said, as a former smoker for many many years, when DH and I went out (he was a smoker too) unless it was a bar - any other establishment we went to we would request non-smoking sections. When I smoked I could not stand the smell of smoke (odd I know) - and if it blew into my face.. forget it..

. We never smoked in our cars or home (kids you know) and never allowed anyone ELSE to smoke around them either. Even in a bar, sometimes it would just get WAY too smoky and it would be incredibly hard to breath due to inadequate ventilation systems.

Today - many years later being a non-smoker - I still cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke, I still request non-smoking when we go out and feel, even in a restaurant that has separate areas - that that little piece of half glass separating smoking from non-smoking is nowhere near adequate. I still feel like I've smoked a pack of cigarettes when I leave

. This is why we no longer go out as often any more. I dont enjoy smelling like smoke and I certainly dont enjoy my children inhaling it and smelling like it. If establishments want to have smoking in their places, they must have adequate ventilation systems. They complain that "it costs too much to do that" - well then....sorry, lose your smoking clientele.

I can see it from both sides of the fence given I've been in both scenarios, but... the old addage of "you cant please everyone" is going to apply no matter what.

I haven't read the whole thread but I quit smoking almost 4 years ago in the middle of this month, and I still agree with the OP that it's ridiculous that you cannot smoke in a bar!
I mean if you're at a bar to drink and get intoxicated with alcohol, what do you care if you inhale some smoke?!

LOL

Seriously though, we have a smoking Ban here in RI. I feel bad for the smokers. While I don't like the smell of smoke at all anymore, I can deal with it and while secondhand is bad for you, so are fifty million other things you're doing everyday.

Don't buy that Cheeseburger, it's bad for you.
Drinking unfiltered water? No, No, it's bad for you.
Eating soy products? Bad.
Eating non-soy products? Bad.
Do you eat non organic produce? Bad, do you know how many posions are on your food....

PICK YOUR POISON! That's what it's all about.

Someone else's decision to smoke can effect my health therefore I can understand laws being made to protect me, the non-smoker. Just like a person has every right to drink and get drunk if they choose, they don't have the right to put me at risk by going out and driving when they make the choice to drink. While a person has every right to make the decision to smoke, they don't have the right to put me at risk with their decision.

I am an ex smoker of 32 years, if I don't want to smell it I go somewhere that is non-smoking. I don't think a business owner should be required to install ventelation, go somewhere else, and let the owner decide who they want to cater to. You can decide not to go there.

Good thing they're not banning laughter cause that one has me rolling on the floor.

I agree thy should not force people to wear seat belts or helmets. what they should do instead is have them sign a contract that they will pay out of pocket for any injuries incurred if harmed because of it. Then if people are still stupid enough to not wear seat belts or helmets it's on them.

They should throw the book at people that don't strap they're kids in. As a parent you are responsible for making sure your kids are safe and yes school buses should have seat belts too.

Hookers are bad for your health when are they going to outlaw them

The thing is not wearing your seat belt or a helmet, eating food that is bad for you... those things don't effect the health of the person sitting next to you. Smoking does.

i'm trying to figure out when it became a constitutional, civil, or human right to enter a privately owned business establishment that is free of contamination be it smoke the smell of cheap perfume, or the occasional human yet to discover soap. i don't go to chucky cheeze unless i'm willing to listen to someones crumb cruching rug rat running around screaming.

Yes, chucky cheese would make my blood pressure rise to unhealthy levels....I think they should banned children from eating establishments, because it is bad for my health.
Can us see where this is leading.......
In order to out law smoking, shouldn't we first mak it illegal? But that will never happen in my life time, it is too much of a $$ maker.
