I so bummed. Hatch day on Peeps chocolates under a scovy. Other than looking in, she was ALWAYS on nest, I let her and the eggs be. Went to pull the eggs and all the AMs are GONE. No shells, no fragments, nothing. The few duck eggs I had left with her are kinda coated and goopy.. The PO did put forklift blades through the box but they were intact. With the silkied chocs being so slow, scovy brooded and bated at lock down think I better figgure out more reliable hatching methods for these precious guys. Hopefully, once I do get more consistant you'll trust me to try again. Gads! I feel awful!

I hate that. Last night I had a raccoon BREAK the door on the Banty Shanty and eat my broody Raraku and the Cream Legbars she was sitting on. They were due today, too. I have 4 more left under a broody Konza. Drats. Really cruddy night.

Actually, more I think about it more I'm thinking the farm cats got to them.
No other explanation for there being no shells, no nothing other than what is most likely hatching residue goo on the remaining unhatched duck eggs. In which case they ALL hatched - early.
Cats or poultry, choice to be made. I'm just sick about this.
Cats are history.

Digging for a silver lining here. Verdict still open on the scovies brooding I guess.
With the silkieds tying up the bator being slow to hatch I've got to use them to stuff the next batch under them to get the new batch of eggs started. Candle and pull live eggs into the bator after a week or so - it'll hold 5 dz just hand turned.

GREAT news on Nicole tho! Whooot! My turn! My turn!

Trying to upload her pics sent. She's had problems uploading here.

Ok, I'm on the computer now instead of phone so here are some pictures. I'll take more once they are out.

The first picture is the last one that hatched. Did I tell you about the egg I cracked while trying to float test?? Couldn't decide if I should trash it or not... Ended up leaving it in because when I went down this morning I had pips.

Here are the 3 of them...

And another pic of them...

I am thrilled to have these 3. I poked tiny holes in 3 of the others, 1 that when float tested was really moving but hasn't pipped. How long do you give them after poking the hole?

I give them 24 hours. If they can breathe, that's all you can do. Keep the humidity up and be patient.

Yay!!

So have they dried enough you can tell what colors they are? Kinda hard to tell with these pics.....
So 3 more you're waiting on?

Having to scramble and swap eggs being brooded out and around with these guys hogging the bator yet. Went to the nest they came out of to swipe and a duck was fresh hatched and 4 more pipped. Plunked eggs in and moved "nest mates" into the hatcher with them. Figgured the hatching and noise might stimulate the silkieds. Maybe even give them the hint it's time to rock and roll!
