First the 'chocolate' birds in the US (OEGB, polish, wyandottes) are all dun which works like the blue gene. Also the OEGB have single combs just like orps, they also have white skin and the leg color matches orps. The wyandottes would be the best type wise but the comb and leg/skin color might pop up again and the rose comb will take a few generations to breed out.

To get the dun orps just breed the choc OEGB to a black orp then keep the chocs from that and just keep doing that until you get better orp type. Once you get choc orps you can breed 2 chocolates together and get 25% khaki and then breed those to black orps and get 100% dun/chocolate.

Like I just posted the common 'chocolate' birds in the US are really dun. As Krys said the only US birds with the actual chocolate are seramas which are still somewhat hard to find in solid colors so trying to find a solid chocolate one would be like trying to find a needle in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, lol.

cool  did not know that

No problem for the help. I have dun laced wyandottes, none for sale right now but there will be some pairs on eggbid soon. Some day I plan on seeing dun birds in every breed...I know, wishful thinking

I had some understanding of this already. Thanks for futuring my knowledge on this point.

My plans still remain the same. Breed to black orps, then cross for several generations until I get what I want.

It is just going to take a long long time.

Actually now that I think of it. Wouldn't using kahki colored Polish bred to Black Orps, speed up the 'chocolate' coloring. I believe it works the same as black/blue/splash. So wouldn't a kahki and black mix create 100% chocolate.
