Choice of breed for eggs?

I used to swear by barred rocks, i would get 5 eggs a day from six hens. My rocks have become spoiled brats and will not lay without scratch every day. if you miss a day and dont give them scratch they wont give you eggs.

My two RIR lay an egg day, even in 10 degree weather. one time i didnt check eggs for the weekend and one of them layed two eggs in one day.

Barred Rocks do Rock! I am considering a pair of those too. Similar looking to my Dominiques, but with different combs. I can't tell my two Dominiques apart anymore. And maybe a pair of Road Island Reds...

My bigger project for next year would be converting my 7' x 8' shed and adding on a 200 sq. ft run.
