I have hung cabbages and broccoli heads for my flock but I can't find an old fashioned kiss xylophone. I see toys for cockatoos and such at TS and my local supply store. There's lots of string and what looks like cork. Are these kinds of toys safe for chickens? I was concerned about ingesting the string or cork causing crop blockage. Anyone had experience?

That's Exactly what I've been looking for. I can't find any in stores because all toys are now electronic including infant toys like this.

Amazon and ebay have plenty of them to choose from.

Looks like the cheapest one I see at Amazon is about 8-9 dollars, and it looks like WalMart has about the same version for 7.80

Not my Walmart. I guess Amazon is the way to go.
Still curious about the safety of those exotic bird type toys.

They’d be safe as long as they were robust so the chickens couldn’t pull parts off. Maybe get ones meant for parrots rather than small birds. You could hang up a mirror for them to watch themselves, or cleaned up tin cans on a string like a wind chime for cheap options.

I put a swing in for my birds .. a few have attempted it, but none of them really use it. I've got various roosts, a couple of tires with dirt/sand mixture for grit and dust bathing, and have done a few toys..what mine seem to want most is for me to just let them out into the extended run and sit with them while they graze in the nice grassy part.

I would say no. Those rope toys are barely safe for caged birds. My cockatiel got his toe nail stuck in one of the ropes and it was a bloody mess. I never allowed them back in his cage.
