Did your lav orps ever hatch?
Yes, two hatched, but I ended up having to cull one. He couldn't walk and looked to have a growth on his leg (elbow?). He wouldn't eat, and only drank if I forced him. The thing on his leg got bigger and bigger. He got weaker and weaker. I finally just put him out of his misery. I work full time and couldn't devote time to trying to nurse him.
The one who made it is named Scuttlebutt. She has this tendency to dart everywhere. She is somewhat spoiled as she is the only one in the brooder. She sits on the sofa with me and watches tv in the evenings.![]()
I currently have 24 eggs in the bator. I need to pull three tonight because they are infertile. I have one or two that may be quitters, but should know for certain tonight when I check and then I have 5 or 6 BCM eggs that are just too dark to see through. I am going to cross my fingers on those and hope none of them explode.
The eggs are a mix of:
Black Copper Marans
Lemon Cuckoo Orps
Lavender Orps
BBS Orps
and
Olive Eggers
They were shipped eggs, but packaged very well. I was really pleased as they seem to be doing well for the most part. Will be sure to post when they hatch, which should be the 20th.![]()
Wow...nice mix! I have barnyard mixes in the bator...23 after 2 were early quitters. Hatch is next weekend. They are for the neighbors behind me who want a mix of egg layers and roos to process.
I was wanting a lavender orp (actually for my 13yo dd), but she has no interest in chickens anymore so I am not paying for eggs for the Easter hatch a long other than what I want.
I miss living in Gilbert, spent 8 years there but wanted more property and quiet than we could find affordably. We are pretty far out, but with the rate of all the QC growth it won't be long til there is a lot more going on. How long have you been in Gilbert?
