Christmas 2014 Hatch-a-Long (12-25-14)

Congrats!

Thanks!

With our original shipment delay problems I am happy to report that after candling 4 of the 5 are showing good signs of development with a lot of movement in three of them.  I marked the 4th with a question mark and will check it again in a couple of days.  The fifth had a little embryo but no veins or movement, it just did not look like the other 4 at all nor did it resemble anything we have seen in the past with our duck eggs.  We decided to crack it open to check it out.  I've never seen this before.  It was sad but very cool at the same time.  It was itty bitty and you could see an eye and based on what we saw I'm 99.99% sure it was no longer developing.

That's good to hear! Especially shipped eggs :)

I quickly candled three of my Christmas chicks, all where doing well. The chicks that hatched today are doing a great job of turning them for me :lau

Oh my gosh, that is funny! xD

Tonight or some time tomorrow during day 10 I'm going to candle all of the eggs, and look for clears or blood rings. But I'm hoping for the best!

Thanks!

How exciting! How many have hatched? I'm so jealous! :jumpy
I candled and all of the eggs I bought showed signs of development. The one with the crack had a blood ring though, so I pulled it out. 12 of my own eggs were clear, so I pulled them, too. All my welsummers are too dark to tell so ive left them in. But I'm thinking it's been so cold outside that my inexperienced roo hasn't been as successful with the ladies lately! I'm glad I bought some eggs to supplement my own!

However, I'm so nervous. I can't seem to trust any of my thermometers or hygrometers. Argh! I have like 6 in there!

I'm sorry about your Olive. :(

Thank you

Four. The other chicks didn't make it out of the eggs, bacteria issues. :hit So I forsure won't touch my Christmas eggs till day 18! Although, the eggs weren't the best quality either way, not helping against bacteria.

Good to see your hatch going well :)

400

I think they are sex-linked. Two roos and two pullets possibly.

I am determined to have a +80% hatch rate this time around! With 24 eggs, I want at least 18 to hatch. What's everyone else's goals? Anyone think they have what it takes for a 100% hatch rate?

I set 4 eggs in the bator on December 4th around 8am. I should have them either Christmas day or the day after :D My husband cracked one in the process of set-up and I haven't seen movement in that one for maybe 3 or 4 days now. I think I should discard it.

Since I set my eggs at 8am on December 4th, would I consider 8am Christmas morning beginning of day 21? I want to get the timing down right so I don't lockdown a day early.
