Christmas 2014 Hatch-a-Long (12-25-14)

Congrats on your hatch. What are you gonna do with that many chicks? I really didn't think that 20 of my eggs would hatch, so now I'm looking at all these babies and wondering what I was thinking. Haha

I opened up the two eggs that didn't hatch. It looks like maybe they died right around day 17/18. Not sure why. One looked normal, just a little small with all of its yolk sac still out, and the other one was all mushy looking. Maybe bacteria got in there. Sad.

My weak chick seems to be better now. I can't really tell which one he/she is anymore.

Now to plan for the Valentines Day hatch-a-long.

Let them grow up and try to re-home all of the roosters. Really I'm not sure right now, I'm just going to enjoy them as they are and try to get a coop built so when they feather out I can move them too my large brooder if there is enough room. I'm counting my chicks because they aren't eggs now, but I'm also counting the pips. So I'm trying to have a plan if that is possible

And then I have some breeds I plan on adding this coming spring so I'll have to make room... I'm getting ahead of myself now

Same, I was expecting like, 20-ish, but I'll take them all for now.

If my chicks are sexlinked, i should have four girls and four males of that that has hatched.

I have three pips who have made no move to hatch yet. I'll of these pips are at the wrong end, so I'll have to keep my eye on them.

Well, I'm sure everyones heard the phrase "do not assist your eggs." Well I didn't assist the ones that pipped at the wrong end last night. All three of them died. It seems the membrane suffocated them, I feel terrible. They had absorbed all of the yolk, they were healthy!

I'm wondering if mine are possibly sexlinked, I have black chicks and some of them have white on them. And then I have a bunch that came out with chipmunk pattern, and I'm not sure where that came from

My mixed Maran roo had that pattern as a chick but everyone else seems to be taking after their mom's not dad.

Okay, there are 38 chicks here, four eggs left, one has pipped and I think the other three died

No internal pip so I candled them and they were not moving at all.

Yes I have heard people say that, but I assisted anyway. Not very good at following rules when a life is one the line.

Here's one of or chicks. So far out of 15 eggs all have pipped and 9 have hatched! I was a little worried about the last 2 because they both hatched out upside down and then just kinda layed there for a while. Just tired I guess. They seem like they're doing better now!

Our remaining solo eggy is a rocking and a shaking, still no pip. My wife said she even heard a peep.

Both of my eggs hatched! Frim the same parents i got one black and one blonde! The black hatched today and the blonde hatched yesterday! Couldnt ask for a better birthday present!
