Christmas in October block Swap

Disappearing pinwheels.
Oh, I like this. We'd have to cut our own 10" blocks and agree the 'background'. I vote for white on white. I also like the lovely fresh modern fabrics on the video. I think we'd have to encourage as many people as possible to join in or do doubles or trebles to make a good sized quilt. The final blocks( or rectangles

) will be less than 10 inches. I'm sure we will overcome all challenges. I'm quite enthusiastic about this one.
well looks like we maybe on to something. we could cut the blocks at 12.5 and do like the tutorial and sew around the otter edge and then cut and sew the pinwheel together would you get the same outcome? just throwing out thoughts

@majack what do you mean white on white? It is far enough in advance we could decide on a background color and I could buy the fabric and send it to who signs up so we all have the same background color for consistency just a thought

I think if everyone used one of the two squares as a wow fabric they would all tie together well, (w/o having to send a specific fabric) as long as everyone chose wow and not off white. Most every wow fabric I have seen have been the same color, unlike ANY other color option including black which have huge variations.

I have made a few disappearing pinwheel blocks

This one I had to make 12.5 but didn't have a wide enough staring piece, so I added a blue outer border before cutting, then putzed w/ the layout until I came up w/ this.

These two I had a similar problem, they were for swaps and couldn't get a big enough starting pinwheel to finish at 12.5 so I undersized on purpose and added an extra churn dash border

Then just to see if I could

You can get white fabric with little patterns in white on it. There is white on white, cream on white, white on cream and cream on cream. The creams vary, some are almost taupe, but the whites are always the same. I think Kassaundra has used a white on cream in a her fourth pinwheel block but it is difficult to tell from the photo. I've used white on white in blocks I have sent you, the autograph block and the big chicken block spring to mind.

I really think we should not mess with the size, Katz. The tutorial on the Missouri site for disappearing pinwheel 5 is so clear and easy to follow and makes a wonderful quilt. I sent it to an absolute beginner quilter and she is soooo enthusiastic about it. The white background of the pinwheels really make the modern colours pop.
