To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees.


Smells like a tax to me. When the government collects a fee I assure you it is a tax.

Christmas trees here cost $70 -$100 for a small- mid size tree. Who would even notice 15 cents?

Wow a tax on Christmas Trees. What will they think of next.

Well if it is only 15 cents. Then I will be paying $5.15 cents, plus the cost of gas for my tree.. LOL

I go to the Forest Service and buy me a $5 christmas tree permit. And then I go into the woods to go tree hunting.. LOL All I need is a saw and pruning shears. Oh dont forget to take a gun for protection.. 2 years ago we had a mountain lion stalking us while we were getting our tree. We kept hearing the bushes move. Then doubled back and saw the prints. That was a bit scary, but wont stop me from my tradition of christmas tree hunting.
