Cicadas

We have had the cicadas all out here, when they first popped up they were hoarding on my pine trees in the yard, we were knocking hundreds of them off a day, and tossing some to chickens and others in bags to freeze. the chickens are having a great time with them and its great fun to watch all the different chicks and hens chase them around and have a fuss.

pips&peeps :

You guys should freeze them and pack them up in Priority Mail boxes and ship them to us people who dont have them. My gals could go for a bug treat!!!!!

X2!!! I want some

Note from NE Ohio - have not seen or heard even one. I cannot wait to have the chicks share in the bounty. With all the rain, however, the nightcrawlers here are HUGE! Big chicken treats - they swallow them whole, I do not know how they do it. They go to bed with full crops of worms.

We have tons of cicadas here in Rock Hill,SC.Last sat,I had a quart jar filled to the brim with dem buggers.Served some to the guineas, chickens, and ducks.

Once one of our ducks had swallowed one whole, and her mouth was open to recieve more, but the cicada wasnt dead in her.Instead it was chirping while her mouth was open.It was a funny sight. She was singing!!!

Anyone want some shipped to you?

I'm not seeing nearly as many emerging and now they're starting to die off! I've found several barely alive on the ground. I really thought the season would go longer the way people talk about last time.

The 13yr. Periodical Cohort has arrived just in time... to feed turkey hens/poults/chooks/Flathead Catfish. Very wet, mild, Spring has amplified the emergence.

A brief, pictorial, summary:
