Ok the big 1/12 million dollar improvement to the city park. In a city i live in year ago., i had hatch many duck and released there, . guess the city father like idea of a nice wall around the lake, no mud you know. So now water down, they are finding a lot of dead duckling.....why because they can't get out of the water.

just another dumb reason to spend tax dollars, what is wrong with a lake with dirt bank......now they have to spend more to build ramp for baby duck to get out.

like to see them charged for cruel to animal , bet over a100 duckling died , because their dumb mistakes

OK, are you saying you hatch ducks and release them there as ducklings? Or that the city does? Either is WRONG!

Ducklings do not yet produce preen oil that will prevent their down/feathers from becoming water logged. Mama ducks smear their own preen oil on the ducklings, which allows them to safely swim until they are old enough to produce their own.

Also, in many cases it is illegal to release domestic animals into the wild.

That's so sad. All they would have had to do was leave a small embankment. I wonder if there's turtles in there. I think a ramp won't help them much.

i released grown/half grown duck mallards , legal there also, yes i have permit to raise wildlife here also.

i known the laws. plus people release domestic waterfowl on there pond/lake all the time, legal also.

Know at what age duckling can be put outside , not a newbe

these duckling are dyeing because they can't get out of the water, most are mallards. mother can fly out.

My husband and I have a landscaping business, and we frequently see people's ideas of "neat" or "pretty" flying in the face of common sense. Trees or bushes planted where they have no room to grow, so they must be pruned to within an inch of their lives to keep them in bounds. Whatever falls naturally is scorned as mulching material. Never mind that a lot of people use pinestraw as mulch, if the landscape has pine trees, someone must remove the needles that fall from the trees, and bark will be brought in for mulch. The folly that really makes me want to scream is the idea that all bushes must be sheared into green meatballs. If you haven't seen what a sheared Oleander looks like, trust me, you don't want to! The city crews are the worst; I call them the "City Uglification Department." Oh, good grief, I sound like the Lorax, speaking for the trees!

I wonder what they thought putting a wall around the lake would achieve? Allow deeper water near the edges to control algae, maybe? That's the only reason that I can come up with other than "it'll look pretty." If pretty was their justification, I doubt they think dead ducklings very pretty. Sad, really sad.

my father was a landscaper for well over 60 years, i also work many year with him.

You are so right about sheared bushes, some so tight the inside has no needles. people plant trees under power lines , so they get topped by the power co.

This City removed all the dirt bank. replace with their pretty cement wall.....SMART
