She paused a bit longer. "We could send someone or a group back here every day to check for her, or we could leave some sort of message-slash-signal. As for the food, where do you guys get the water?"

Beatrix's jaw tightened by a fraction of an inch. "I," she said, voice steely, "am not leaving anyone for dead until I have substantial proof."

"The water comes from the lake. Or Leah," said Beatrix.

"Or Leah?" Ailyss waved the comment away. "Never mind, I don't want to know. Have you guys ever thought of fishing? Even if we didn't have things to make fishing poles, we could use nets or traps."

Leah dipped her head at the mention of her name and gift. She still didn't know why they had such powers
 
"We've been in the lake," Elisha said. "There's not many fish there, and the ones that are there aren't big, not enough to make a meal. Trust me, I would know."

"Just putting it out there..." Isabella said in response to Beatrix. She didn't really want to be on her bad side.

"Autumn used to hunt," Jo added. "There's lots of rabbits and birds around here."

"Why don't we set traps or snares? I mean, I don't know if anyone here knows how to make one, but it can't be that hard to figure out. Just throwing out yet another idea, couldn't we try gardening or eating plants? Really, if we keep eating meet we're going to get samanila or something."

"We have been using our bows to hunt." Alexis said then shrugged "Like I said before, this area has nearly been played out. The animals that are left are harder to catch." She looked to Leah then to the fire "I like the idea of moving away from here. We know she's not coming back, we know those shadow people took her. If she was able to she would have returned by now. "
