Beatrix noticed her reaction. "Don't worry," she said calmly, "Nobody falls on my watch. Now," she said, turning to the others, "I seriously doubt that there's only one out there. Be careful. Don't get yourselves killed. When you find Autumn and whoever took her, don't go straight back to camp with them. Find another group so they can tell the others. Try to bring whoever did it back alive, but don't strain yourself. I want to ask them some questions. All clear?"Isabella frowned, looking down. A rush of fear overcame her and her heartbeat pumped faster. She had never been good with heights, and it wasn't any better now. She took a step away from the edge.
Beatrix shrugged, "Look at us. With all the craziness going on, why couldn't they have jumped?"Isabella nodded, though she still didn't want to go down. "How could they have gotten down there anyway?"
"It's all right," said Beatrix, though nothing was all right at the moment, "I think she's alive." She raised her chin slightly and added with sinister bravado, "But if she isn't, then God have mercy on whoever killed her, because they won't be getting any from me. Now let's go. I'll go first.""'Cause they'd hurt themselves. That's why." Isabella said stubbornly. She glanced to the cliff face again. "I mean, Autumn can heal fast, but no one's immortal." She just seemed to realize what she said. "Sorry."
Beatrix calmly lowered herself over hedge and began climbing.Isabella nodded. She definitely didn't want to go down first. Well, she didn't want to go down at all, but that's beside the point.
Elisha walked closer to Cable and Jo.
"So, which direction?" Jo asked.
