from Alabama. Glad you joined us. I recommend Easter Eggers, too. Ours are some of the friendliest chickens we have & of course, their eggs are beautiful. Orpingtons, Jersey Giants, & Silkies are some other ones, but Silkies go broody so easily that they aren't great egg layers. Congrats & good luck with your farm

I have done it! Went and got 3 New Hampshire Reds and 3 Wynnadottes today. My babies peep at me and love to eat out of my hand already. What an adventure!

Hi and
welcome-byc.gif
from South Carolina.
This past spring I bought a variation of chicks to see which breed I liked best.. I bought Dark Brahmas- heavy breed, slow to mature, wonderful temperament brown egg

, I got white leg horn.. not my fav:smack , wont buy anymore of them, she is sweet but very flighty not pet/ hold friendly. I got barred Rocks..

brown nice sized egg.. great breed very pet/ hold friendly, smart inquisitive.. yes I would have them again.. I got golden comets..

apparently their color was too enticing for the fox ( that is no longer around. boom boom) so they never got to maturity. I won at a chicken stock a Dominique pullet. nope not the personality im looking for..

:yiipchick , Nice blue egg yes I would buy more.. but by far my favorite that I plan on getting 25 more next spring from ideal is my Barred Holland.. they are on the critical list. she looks much like a barred rock except where they are very black and white she is more grey/ silver and white bars. she has absolutely the BEST personality, she loves everyone, people dogs cats.. and best of all ... other chickens. she is not persnickety to anyone else doesn't matter what age they are or breed they are bigger, smaller, hen or roo.. she is friendly to Everyone.. she lays the same size White egg as the leghorn, and everyday.. I would highly suggest looking into the Barred Hollands.. by far my favorite

good luck and keep on the threads.. I thought I had "read up and studied" oh my gosh there is sooo much to learn everyday about chickens you would not believe it..

and I must warn as well.. chickens... are... HIGHLY .... ADDICTIVE!!! they are just the most wonderful little animals, and there are so many varieties that how can you not keep adding to the flock..

have fun )O(
